Tea Garden

Tortosa on Mondays are market days that spread across the streets (near the main Park) and behind the lovely walkways along the River Ebro.

Shopping is thirsty work! Browsing can make you very hungry as well.

Move away from the crowds and head for the Plaza near the Information Centre and the main Tortosa bus (HEFE) station and pop into the "Tea Garden Cafeteria"- on the right as you stand with your back to the market.

You will receive a friendly welcome and be invited into an international atmosphere of good teas, quality coffee and a selection of tasty snacks, where several languages are spoken.

Choice of Teas:

Te's Cla'sicos Negros:

  • China Keemum
  • Darjeeling
  • English Breakfast (ask for your cold milk separately)

Te's Verdes:

  • Jasmin
  • Menta (Moruno)
  • Te'Verde

Te's Aromatizados Negros

Earl Grey (ask for your cold milk separately)

  • Li'mon
  • Maracuja
  • Mil Flores
  • Ron

Te' rojo

Te Blanco

This is not English tea with milk!

The teenagers have tagged along too and looking a trifle bored after traipsing around the market stalls? Don't worry there is a Pool Table for them to practice on while your rest your shopping-worn feet.

On wWarmer days or evening it is so refreshing to sit under the wide covered through patio-pavement (safe for younger one's to play on)...most welcoming breeze in Tortosa when humidity hits the heights, with a tankard of cold, cold lager or chilled cava or vino or just a choice of wonderful teas. The youngsters can quench their thirst with juices, Fanta and Chocolate - the kids consume the latter in large quantities over here.

Try the variety of Bocadillos and Platos and for the brave hearted you can always finish off with a "carajillo". This is a strong black coffee with brandy…(but do count them if you are driving!). "Platos" means a "Plate meal" that equates to a lunch or dinner size meal and are very satisfying as well as tasty. Also they try to accommodate European tastes. You can even get a "Bacon Butty" or the nearest equivalent is a "Bocadillos con Bacon" or Bacon con Queso" - bacon with cheese. If you like bacon try the "Bacon tortil" …yummy.

Choice of coffees:

  • Jamaica Blue Mountain
  • Puertorico Yauco Selecto
  • Guatemala Volcan de Oro
  • Ethiopoa Arabi'ca Limu
  • Pap'ua Nueva Guinea

Don't speak any Spanish or Catalan? They will help you along each time you pull up a chair. So many people I have heard that within 3 months of calling in regularly they had broken the back of their language learning problems in either Catalan or Spanish…. Just ask them " How do you say this or that?" and they will help you. Take a notebook and ask them to write it down so you don't forget it and you have it for home or next time.

Furthermore, they have a rack of newspapers and magazines to browse through, so don't worry if you are on your own and panicking about the language. The more you look at the written print the more you will be able to gage the meanings of what is happening in your new or on-going adventures. You will soon make new friends here!

There is more next door...an Internet café where anyone can surf online for an hour for ONE euro!! Fabulous value and so nice to check your emails from friends back home after you have quenched your thirst and stifled your hunger pains. They have web cams and a printer is also linked to the computers for your convenience at a nominal cost. It is called a Locutoria and you can phone home from a private cubicle and international calls work out cheaper than a payphone or your mobile.

"Preparamos tus celebraciones".
