Dear Friends,
Time flies
when you have so many self-suffiency survival type projects to do
(as well as being a full time care-giver to Alan and Mom), and all
the birthday celebrations added a lot to the workload. But it is
always good to see family. That is one thing many people miss most
about settling in a new land. At least nowadays there are quick
flights to the UK, assuming you can get to the strange little airports
they are flying out of in the middle of an English winter.
Anyway, big
brother Alwyn and his wife Linda, who have only recently immigrated
from South Africa to settle in the north of England (just as we
were leaving). Of course, being a doctor and all, they had to stay
in town in a nice hotel, rather than roughing it with us. But that
was OK. They came in via the local Reus airport and hired their
own little car, while we were stuck at the hospital getting all
Alan's tests updated.
At first Linda
was shocked that we were living out in the country ("away from
all the support groups in England!"..all those I never had
there...), then she was amazed at how big our house had become (at
least compared to UK ones). Not quite sure what they thought of
cousin's even bigger property. But they were pretty exhausted. So
they rested a lot, did some shopping and sight seeing and then flew
back. Unfortunately, we had English rain the whole time they
were here and low cloud, so they never really appreciated all the
wonderful mountains around us. Maybe they can come back in the autumn
or even November..then they can help me pick my olives.
Whew. As Mom
said, visitors are nice. But now we are just the 3 of us again.
And she was obviously referring to how comfortable and content we
have become together. Three lame crocks together..what?
Now if only
we could get some news from Lee and his wife I could relax.
Regards,
Roseann and
family.
